In late 2024, the Rusland Horizons Trust entered into successful discussions with Cumbria Wildlife Trust about transitioning to become a CWT local support group. The CWT, a charity with aims and objectives entirely aligned with Rusland Horizons, gives access to the administrative strength of a large organisation and allows volunteers to focus on vital local conservation, education and nature-based work in Rusland. CWT were also a partner within the original Rusland Horizons programme through projects such as the ‘Magical Meadows’ initiative, and so are best placed with the knowledge and understanding to support our activities.
This transition was completed during the first half of 2025. You do not have to be a member of CWT to get involved. Sign up for the CWT newsletter, register through our CWT Rusland Local Support Group page, and join the Wild About Rusland Facebook group to keep up to date with events and activities.
All existing RHT funds will be transferred to the new local support group and will be used solely to further education and conservation in the Rusland Valley area.
The local support group is a much simpler organisation with no formal trustees or directors. We still need volunteers to help us run our projects and to deal with some basic administration.
