Exploring Abbots Reading - Historical features to look out for on a south Lakeland farm

A party of Lake District National Park Archaeology Volunteers had completed a day recording the remains of industrial activity in the woods above Abbots Reading. On emerging from the woods the low winter sun highlighted the ridge and furrow which formed just a part of a wonderful landscape.
This was clear historical evidence of the world’s principle industry: Agriculture.
We resolved that these monuments should be recorded. The farmer, Tony Wood gave his permission and help to enable a team, under the leadership of Jeremy Rowan-Robinson, to conduct a comprehensive survey of the fields.
