Dan Fox, musician and imaginative engineer will be helping people to hear the sounds of nature that they have never heard before at the Rusland Horizons Bioblitz.
Dan told us “I love the landscape around Bowkerstead and there should be a good variety of sounds to discover. I will be leading a group of up to 20 people on two sound walks on Sunday 1st July.
"We will use an array of different microphones to explore the sound world around Bowkerstead farm. Each participant gets a pair of wireless headphones. We will be listening in to sounds underwater, in trees, underground. We will be tuning in to both the noises we can hear with our ears and those normally hidden to us.”
Dan will also be putting on his musician’s hat at the beginning of the 24 hour Bioblitz. Along with the rest of Boom Bike Bourée they will be entertaining Bioblitz participants on the Saturday night with their unique brand of music - described as Medieval dance and trad. folk music meets hip-hop!
Deb Muscat, Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre Manager said “The Bowkerstead Bioblitz is a serious event which will result in Cumbria knowing a lot more about the wildlife in the area, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun.”
The Bowkerstead Bioblitz, a free family friendly event, takes place at the Grizedale Campsite, Bowkersteaad Farm, Satterthwaite from 4pm on Saturday 30 June to 4pm on Sunday 1st July. Activities will include an evening bat walk, butterfly hunt, guided walks, moth trapping, tracking mammals. The event is being run by Rusland Horizons and Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre.
