Greenwood Trail 2

Greenwood Trail 2: Haverthwaite Heights and Abbots Reading

This walk, round Haverthwaite Heights, follows woodland paths, fields and a small amount of road. The paths are quite rough in places and often muddy (appropriate footwear recommended). The walk involves a few steep sections which gain the best viewpoints. There are 2 routes:

  • Short (path through woodland) 3.5km 2 miles 1-1.5hrs
  • Long (including Abbots Reading Farm) 4.8km 3 miles 1.5-2hrs

A choice of routes from Lane Ends, the Old Road,  Haverthwaite Railway Station, Whitewater Hotel, Linsty Green or Abbots Reading Farm.  Parking is available at Lane Ends.

So far so good...

  • This is the second Greenwood Trail, launched in May 2018. Download the leaflet here.
  • An old bark-peeler's hut has been restored along the route.
  • Overgrown paths have been cleared in Haverthwaite Heights.
  • A new section of footpath has been created along part of the route.

Did you know?

Look out for red and roe deer in the fields and woodlands.  Red Squirrels are being encouraged back into the area - keep your eyes peeled....
