Do you wish you could use more colour in your knitting but are unsure how to do it? Do you ever long to capture the colours you see in nature on your needles but don’t know where to start? Then this workshop is for you.
Spend a morning learning the techniques that will free up your ability to incorporate as many colours as you want into a piece of knitting.
Join your tutor Kate McBride on a guided walk in the neighbouring countryside to see how nature uses colour.
Spend the afternoon making swatches and samples to explore what you’ve learned, choosing colours from a range of 24 shades of gorgeous high quality Shetland yarn.
Experience needed: you will need to be able to cast on and off, and use both knit and purl stitches
Things to bring:
- Knitting needles 3.50mm, 3.75mm, 4.0mm, single pointed (i.e. not circular or dpn)
- Practice yarn in DK gauge, preferably wool or acrylic (i.e. not cotton or linen) in a variety of colours
- Scissors, other knitting accessories you normally use
- Notepad and pen
- £10 for materials should be brought to the course and paid to the trainer on the day.
There are no charges for courses if you are unemployed or in full time education, (proof required*). If there is charge for materials you will be expected to pay this and cash should paid to the trainer on the day.

Location: Rookhow Centre, Rusland LA12 8LA
Directions:
From the South: From the M6 Junction 36: take the A591 and then A590, signed Barrow-in-Furness. Though we are only 10 mins on valley roads from the A590 at Newby Bridge, for your first visit we STRONGLY ADVISE staying on the A590 to Greenodd. At Greenodd take the A5092, signed Whitehaven/Workington, for quarter of a mile, then take the first right, a minor road signed Colton/Oxen Park. Continue through Oxen Park for a further 2 miles. Rookhow is on the left, after you see (but do not follow!) the sign for Ickenthwaite.
From Barrow in Furness: Take A590 east to Greenodd, then as above.
From Hawkshead: Follow signs to Grizedale and continue for a further 3 miles beyond the Grizedale Visitor Centre through Satterthwaite village as if heading towards Ulverston. Rookhow is 2 miles south of Satterthwaite, and 1 mile south of Force Forge hamlet, on the right. If you see a sign for Ickenthwaite you have just missed our drive!
Age Limit: Courses are designed for 18years and over. If you are under 18, please contact us on rusland.horizons@lakedistrict.gov.uk to discuss other opportunities.
