Heritage Skills: Natural Dyeing

This workshop with Mairi Lock will provide a taster for those of you who want to try natural dyeing.

Given the limitations of the day then this will probably be limited to dyes which do not require pre-mordanting of the yarns, so using onion skins and bark from the local area. If you have some hand spun yarn or commercial yarn then please bring it. No more then 10g hanks at a time.

We can cover how to tie hanks for dyeing, preparation, types of dyes, and safety before we dye some yarn. All yarns to be white (no overdying please) . Please bring a sturdy apron, and rubber gloves. Some means of identifying your yarns when in the dye pot would be useful.
Given the fact we will have boiling pans of dyes this is not a suitable course for children either participating or watching.

Course fee: £10 (There are no course fees if you are unemployed or in full time education; proof is required - see Terms and Conditions in event description).

Materials cost: £5-£10 for materials - to be brought to the course and paid to the trainer on the day.
