Tony Morgan will start by guiding students through a simple project to learn the basics of cutting, dying, riveting and edging leather. This could be a belt fob or bracelet. Then students will be shown how to make a template for their main project and how to go through the various stages of stitching, molding and finishing the leather ready for use.
Typical projects are billhook, knife, adze and axe sheaths, and pruning saw and secateurs pouches. Make sure you bring along more than one tool as you may have time to complete two main projects.
Materials: Material costs are £16 per square foot for oak bark tanned Devon cowhide leather (the oak bark used comes from the South Lakes). This equates to about £8 for an axe sheath or £20 for a billhook sheath.
There are no charges for courses if you are unemployed or in full time education, (proof required*). If there is charge for materials you will be expected to pay this and cash should paid to the trainer on the day.

Directions (from the south A590): From the Kendal direction take the turning signed Bouth after the Rusland Pool Hotel. After 1/4 mile turn right at the junction towards the village of Bouth. After 1.5 miles, you will reach Old Hall Farm on the left.
Weather:

Course Fees - Concessions
Courses are free if you are unemployed or are in full time education. These discounts relate to course fees only, materials costs still apply. Money for materials should be brought to the course and given to the trainer directly on the day.
Applying for the Unemployment or Student Discount
If you want to apply for the unemployment, or student discount, please send us proof of your eligibility within seven days of your booking a course. You can send this to us via email to rusland.horizons@lakedistrict.co.uk or send via post to:

If you have not supplied proof within the required seven days, you will be charged the full amount for the course.

Cancellation
In order to receive a full refund, you must notify us 30 days of the course start date that you are unable to attend.
