Bioblitz

Location: Bowkerstead Farm, Satterthwaite, LA12 8LL

What is a Bioblitz -  A fun event to get a snapshot of the variety of life in the area for scientific research, whilst at the same time learning about wildlife in the area and sharing what we find.

Why are we doing this? - For scientific research into species in the area which will inform conservation practices and land management. It is also a really fun way to explore natural spaces and discover about wildlife.

What do we want to achieve? - We would like to find out more about species in the area around Bowkerstead Farm and create a grand list of species and involve people from the local area in this event. This is a real scientific expedition so everything we find will be documented and passed on to our local and national wildlife databases.

Would you like to be a scientific explorer?

Whatever age you are you can become a wildlife explorer for a day at our BioBlitz event on Saturday 30 June & Sunday 1 July at Bowkerstead Farm near Grizedale.

Come along on the day and we'll show you how to take part in the survey. The surveying will include finding species of birds, mammals, bugs, plants and insects. As well as going out and listing everything you find for the survey you can take part in workshops and discovery sessions, talk face to face with experts, take part in creative fun, have a go with specialist equipment to look a little closer at nature, share your knowledge and contribute to the whole event.

The Bioblitz is for all ages and abilities and we’ll be supported by lots of local experts and enthusiasts. It will take place over 24 hours so if you want to camp at the farm with us you will be really welcome and there will also be a tipi cafe and live music!

No need to book. Come for the whole event or drop in for a couple of hours  - there will be plenty to keep you busy!

Parking is available at the farm, if you wish to camp its £7.00 for adults and £3 for children (volunteers who help at the Bioblitz get free camping.) There is also a cafe and toilets on site.
