Heritage Skills 2019: Swill Basket Making

Location: Spout Meadow, High Nibthwaite. Postcode: LA12 8DF

Swills are very traditional baskets from the Furness area. During the three day course local expert Owen Jones will show you how to start with a coppiced oak tree, a bundle of hazel rods and go through the whole process to complete your own swill basket.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn the rare craft of swill basket making, once so common in this area but now just practised by a handful of people. Owen Jones is known nationally for his dedication to the beautiful and practical skill of swill making.
