Satterthwaite Excavation Introduction Evening

Location: Outback Hall, Leven Valley School, Haverthwaite, Ulverston, Cumbria, LA12 8QF

Satterthwaite Bloomery was a charcoal-fired furnace likely to be of Medieval date. Charcoal found nearby dates back to 1280 – 1410. We are looking for volunteers to join our archaeologists and carry out a geophysical survey and excavation to find out more about early iron smelting processes.

This informal evening is an introduction to the excavation of Satterthwaite Bloomery which is due to start at the end of April. There will be a presentation by Rob Philpott and Harold Mytum from the University of Liverpool, they will be out in the field leading the practical side of the excavation.

Please come and meet the team and book your place on the excavation. Refreshments will be provided.
