Join us for a fascinating walk starting from Oxen Park Reading Room led by local moth and butterfly enthusiast Rob Fitter. We will set off at 9am to open the moth trap set the night before and see what we find inside.
Then we will take a leisurely stroll along some nearby footpaths where there is good moorland and woodland habitat for small pearl bordered fritillaries and dark green fritillaries. Who know what else we might spot?
This is a great chance to learn more about these beautiful butterflies which are key species in the Rusland Valley. Sadly all butterflies have undergone a severe decline in England due to loss of habitat. Rob will also talk about how you can do your own surveying to build up our records and help us understand the health of the butterfly population in the area.
The walk will end around 12.00 leaving the chance to enjoy a picnic for those who want to stay on and chat.
