Come and join us for a day of completely new hedgerow planting up at Thwaite Head (LA12 8JY) near the site of an ancient orchard. Learn this heritage skill under the helpful guidance of countryside ranger Andrew Wilkinson and also hear all about owner, David Walker's, plans for the land and historic barn including the possible planting of a new orchard to replace the one lost. This hedgeplant will be using all native plants to help improve biodiversity by creating a new safe habitat for all manner of native species. This work supports general nature recovery and climate change resilience in our precious Rusland valley.
No prior experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty!
To ensure the session is finished in daylight, we expect to finish around 3.30pm, still plenty of time to hone skills and really see an impact on the heritage landscape around you. Please bring warm weather proof clothing and your own lunch and hot drinks.
Under 18's welcome but must be supervised by their parents or guardians. The event is not suitable to bring dogs.
Parking available on site but please car share if possible.
