Join Vanessa Champion, Ancient and Veteran Tree recorder for the Woodland Trust, on a woodland walk in the Rusland valley. Throughout the walk, that starts near Old Hall Farm, Bouth, you will have the opportunity to learn about the rich variety of ancient and veteran tree species in this beautiful area.
Vanessa will share her extensive experience gained from verifying and identifying hundreds of trees, helping you learn how to identify an ancient or veteran tree yourself so you can do some spotting and recording of your own!
As part of the walk, you will also be able to help record the most significant of the oldest trees along an ancient field boundary. With Vanessa’s guidance, you will identify the trees, measure and describe them by looking at a number of key features of old trees. Once photographs have been taken to accompany the tree details, the information will be sent to the Woodland Trust and added to its Ancient Tree Hunt national inventory.
The walk, and tree recording, will take place along tracks and fields and although not strenuous (approximate distance 2-3 miles), it will be a reasonable walk with areas of uneven ground so some level of fitness is required.
Booking is essential as places are limited.
Suitable for ages 14 and over. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
