Veteran Tree Guided Walk

Back by popular demand! These guided walks proved very popular so we are delighted Vanessa Champion, volunteer Ancient and Veteran Tree recorder for the Woodland Trust, is willing to repeat the walk following the same route on two further dates.

The walk will start at 10.00 from Finsthwaite Village Hall and follow a circular route taking approximately 3 hours. On the walk there will be the opportunity to see and learn about a variety of species of ancient and veteran trees in this wonderful part of the Rusland Valley. As some of you may know, Vanessa has verified and identified hundreds of ancient and veteran trees as part of the Woodland Trust’s Ancient Tree inventory. This inventory lists more than 160,000 trees in the UK so far, and we have more of these precious trees than any other European country. This is a great chance to learn more about how to identify an ancient or veteran tree so you can do some spotting and recording of your own.

The walk is not strenuous, but there is some uphill and the ground may be uneven so it does require a reasonable level of fitness.

This is an adults only walk as numbers are limited. The event will be Covid secure.

Booking is essential. Please only book onto one of the two walks to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate.
